Relative Fitness • The contribution an individual makes to the gene pool of the next generation, which is relative to the contribution of other individuals. It’s a type of fitness that is based of an entire genetic and environmental context.
Directional selection • Occurs when conditions favor individuals exhibiting one extreme of a phenotypic range. • It shifts the frequency curve in one direction or the other.
Disruptive Selection • Favors variants at both ends of the distribution . • The intermediate traits have a disadvantage.
Stabilizing selection • Removes extreme variants from the population and preserves intermediate types.
