Hazardous Waste • Water Soluable Contaminants – stuff that dissolves in water –(fertilizers and pesticides) • Light Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (LNAPLs) do not dissolve in water but float on top because less dense (oil, gasoline, jet fuel) • Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (DNAPLs) do not dissolve in water but sink because heavier (PBCs- Transformers and TCE-chlorinated solvents) • Sediment – soil that can be transported in water – usually due to erosion and can block fish gills • Organic Material – contains bacteria (fecal material)
