  2. Activity Time Problem: Mrs. Albrecht is panicking! She needs a great paragraph from each of her students by Thursday, October 18th. The paragraph needs to inform OPS students about Mix-it Up Day! It must be exactly 5 sentences and each sentence must be different.

  3. Assessment Rubric 4 – If all 5 sentence types are used. Vocabulary is excellent. The paragraph addresses the purpose. 3 – (Perhaps) Missing a sentence type. Vocabulary is average. The paragraph addresses the purpose. 2 – (Perhaps) Missing several sentence types. Vocabulary is weak. Writes a narrative or persuasive or is way off topic 1- It stinks! Somebody should wave a skunk in front of it.

  5. w Words/Phrases in a Series – List or descriptive lists Example of Words in a Series: Mrs. Abrecht went to the supermarket and purchased yogurt, almonds, bottled water and fat-free hotdogs. Example of Phrases in a Series: The shiny red apple oozed with fresh juices, mouthwatering aromas, and incredible confidence.

  6. I Independent Clause – Simple Sentences Example: Oradell Public School has wonderful children who behave in the lunchroom. We started our wonderful field trip at Camp Bernie with canoeing.

  7. D Dependent Clause – Not a sentence, sentence. Starting words: As, After, Before, Until, Although, Even if, Unless, Because, In order to, Whenever, While Example: Although Mrs. Albrecht is obsessed with exercise, she is a great Mom too! Example: Before 6-A comes into class, Chris tells a funny story about his pet alligator.

  8. C Compound – Two sentences combined Example: Sentence 1: Eli Manning is a spectacular quarterback. Sentence 2: Jake Manning has four quarters in his pocket. Eli Manning is a spectacular quarterback, and Jake Manning has four quarters in his pocket.

  9. A Appositive – descriptive sentence Example: Mr. Kasturas, who loves listening to 70’s rock tunes, is a fantastic dancer. Example: Spencer, Felicita’s pet turtle, escaped her bedroom window and crawled to Ian’s house. Example: Donovan, the newest student in 6th grade, spent $1 on a slice of pizza with some new friends.
