Which Journals? • Not all journals are the same: • Money talks journals • Various journal lists: • DIKTI List (based on Scopus) • Australian Business Deans Council List (ratings) http://www.abdc.edu.au/3.43.0.0.1.0.htm • University specific list (Top-3, Top-6, Top-20, etc.) • Cross disciplines publications are often counted (Finance, IS) • How journals are ranked? • Citation, Acceptance rate, Number of publication per year, Age, Quality, Survey etc. • University research rankings (UTD ranking) http://jindal.utdallas.edu/the-utd-top-100-business-school-research-rankings/

Skills and Resources in Research • Research Ideas (research questions, motivation, literature, theories, and hypotheses) • Data • Methodology and Modeling • Econometrics • Recent issues: causal-effect, endogeneity, robustness tests, etc. • Statistical analysis and interpretations • Writing (style and clarity) • Know how to respond to reviews

How to Make it Happens? • Read many papers • Get the literature and understand/appreciate the skills needed • Think about what you can do: (data, methods, holes, extensions) • Get your idea kicked-around before you start your project • Prepare a two-page research proposal • Collaborate wisely (complement your skills) • Circulate your paper for inputs • Submit your paper to conferences
