  3. Community Organizer • Communities Organizer in Chicago with a church-based group, the Developing Communities Project. For the next several years, he worked with low-income residents in Chicago's Roseland community and the Altgeld Gardens public housing development on the city's South Side

  4. Law Career • Entered Harvard Law in 1988 • Elected first African-American president to Harvard Law Review • Magnum Cum Lade in 1991 • Worked at Chicago law firm • Taught Constitutional Law at Chicago School of Law

  5. Political Career • Elected Illinois State Senate in 1996 • Re-elected in 1998 and 2002 • Lost a bid for House of Representatives in 2000 • Introduced to the nation as a speaker at DNC in 2004 as candidate to US Senate
