Threats to the Survival of the Giant Panda • Wild Giant Pandas are found only in a number of relatively small areas within China. • China has the largest human population of any country in the world. • And the expansion of areas used by humans, can mean less space for the pandas. • Pandas need to be able from place to place, but some places have a lack of bamboo which the pandas feed on, this means some pandas will starve them selves too death.
Bamboo Loss. • Pandas feed on 25 to 40 pounds of bamboo per day. • When bamboo dies-off this is a natural process, occurring every 15-120 years. • After flowering bamboo can take up to 20 years for re-growth.
Panda life and history. • Pandas are a subfamily of the bear family. • Their diet is almost completely made up of bamboo. • They live about 20 years in the wild, and start breeding at 7 & 8.
Panda life and history. • Pandas are around 3 million years old. • They have out survived many species such like, the Stegodon and the Chinese rhino. • They exist in the wild in mountainous areas. • They are endemic to a small area of china.
Poaching. • 52 panda skins were recovers from poachers in 11 years. • An estimated of 240 pandas have been captured for zoos.
Problems with habitats. • Protected lands are bored by local communities. • Although logging isn’t permitted, people and loggers still do it.

What does this mean? • This means pandas high up in the tree tops are losing food and enjoyment of the trees.
Loss of population • There are many reasons why the pandas are becoming extinct. • :- the lack of bamboo. • :- poaching • :-and not enough space. • These are just a few of the many reasons.
