Quality and Enhancement: Faculty based roles and responsibilities Faculty Heads of Quality and Enhancement (HoQE) have overall responsibility for the leadership and management of academic quality and standards within the faculties. • In relation to External Examiners, HoQE approve appointments on behalf of the Faculty and approve responses to annual reports Departmental Quality Coordinators work with academic departments to: • manage and lead all aspects of quality and enhancement at departmental level • including the coordination of the appointment of external examiners for all departmental provision
Programme Leaders, Course Leaders and Module Leaders Programme/Course Leaders • Identify and nominate External Examiners and are involved within induction and coordinate of the provision of course / module material • Respond to annual reports • Key contact Module Leaders • Write, and respond to external verification of assessment instruments • Provide samples of student work for external moderation, arrange meetings with students where appropriate, in collaboration with Programme and Course Leaders
Responses to External Examiner Annual Reports Annual reports are received and read by senior staff in Academic Quality and Standards, before being circulated to the Faculty Head of Quality and Enhancement, Departmental Quality Coordinators, academic teaching teams and other relevant staff for response (e.g. Assistant Registrar) Responses are made on the annual report by relevant people and approved by the senior staff in Academic Quality and Standards and the Faculty Head of Quality and Enhancement before being returned to External Examiners Actions arising from annual reports are captured through the Routine Monitoring and Review process involving consideration at module, course/programme Key themes are presented within Annual Department Overview Reports to inform action plans connected with assurance and enhancement of the students' educational experience
