The Wall Builders Different backgrounds: • Goldsmiths, Merchants a Perfumer (v8, 31, 32) • Temple servants, Priests, Levites, High Priests • Government Officials (District of Mizpah, Beth-zur, Beth-haccherem, Jerusalem, Keilah) Different people groups: • Entire "people groups" (ie: Tekoites, inhabitants of Zanoah, men of Jericho, men of Gibeon, men of the valley) Families: • Sons, Daughters, Brothers Differing Rolls and responsibilities: • People who repaired walls, gates, and even the official seat of the governor • People who built twice: Tekoites, Meremoth, and possibly Binnui & Hananiah Distinguished builders: • Baruch the son of Zabbai zealously repaired (v20) • Tekoites discouraged from building because they were not supported by their nobles (they built twice: v5, v27) People from near and far: • People who lived near the walls, in the walls (v21) • Tekoites (12 miles south of Jerusalem)
