White Deer Run Allenwood Change Project Jackie Bergonia and Brianne Shreck
Aims • To increase awareness of Vivitrol in clients and their families/support systems. • To increase rate of injection. • To increase level of support for clients.
Changes Made • Beginning in August, the Family Program expanded their services to include the 2-day Family program, biweekly family visitations, and a Recovering Parents program that includes visitations. • Participants in all Family Programming are now provided with handouts on Vivitrol and information is incorporated into programming. • To reach clients immediately, information on Vivitrol is now included in client intake packets they receive immediately upon admission.
Outcomes • Of the 59 injected clients from August to present, 19 were participants in the family services programming. That equaled 32% of all injected clients. • In August 1 participant was injected, in September 6 participants were injected, and in October 8 participants were injected. November has had 4 injections thus far. • Most notably, 17% (13/83) of all participants in the parenting program have been injected. This is significantly higher then our 2012 average of 3.4% (156/4647) injection rate for the facility. • The average rate of injection from January to July was 3% while the rate of injection from August to present has increased to 4%.
Next Steps • Continue to gather data to see if initial increase sustains/increases to determine if results are reliable and valid. • Continue to maintain the project and action steps taken. • Continue to raise organization’s awareness of family services programming.
Impact • Negative- It has become even more evident the amount of clients who are now aware of and interested in being injected, yet lack the funding to do so. • Positive- Clients and families are more educated and aware of the facts regarding Vivitrol.
