Where We’re Headed • For our next unit, we are going to read literature written by the famous American humorist, Mark Twain. • We will begin with a short story and then move to the Autobiography of Mark Twain. • You will be responsible for weekly vocabulary quizzes and for your assessment of this unit, you will complete your own autobiography.

  3. Journal Share After completing the testing last week, share your feelings. Was the test easier this time? Harder? Did you feel prepared? Why or why not?

  4. Who Was Mark Twain? • Instead of me giving you the facts, someone give me some. • When was Twain born? • Where was he born? • What is his real name? • What are some interesting facts about him?

  5. Author Bio • Mark Twain was born in Florida, Missouri, on November 30, 1835 . • His real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens. • He grew up along the Mississippi River; a place that would eventually inspire his pen name. • Twain spent some time in the Confederate Army. • Twain is most known for reflecting the American spirit in his writing.

Author Bio • In 1870 Twain married and relocated to Connecticut. • It was here where he wrote The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. • Twain had a more positive life than some of the authors we have learned about however he did have to declare bankruptcy. • His wife and two daughters also passed away sometime after.
