  1. Relationships and Sex Education at Alexander Hosea Primary School A guide to the curriculum in KS1 As a parent or carer you are a key person for your child learning about relationships and sex. Our school works in partnership with you and keeps you informed of our RSE programme.

Foundation Stage: • Hygiene (toilet, hand washing) • Naming body parts ( excluding genitalia) • Family and friends Year 1: • Body parts (including genitalia) • Differences between boys and girls • Life cycles (plants) Year 2: • Feelings and relationships • Diversity of families • Life cycles (animals and plants) How you can support your child at home: DO • Read books, leaflets or watch videos with your child • Make sure that they know they can talk through worries with you • Help them to describe their feelings in different situations • Talk while you are doing something else; washing up, driving the car, having a cup of tea • Listen rather than judge. Try asking them what they think • Answer questions as honestly as you can • If it fells too personal, try talking about people in books, films or TV programmes

Relationships and Sex Education at Alexander Hosea Primary School A guide to the curriculum in KS2 • At Alexander Hosea School we believe that it is important • To promote healthy relationships in conjunction with healthy lifestyles • To increase self-esteem of every child in our school giving them confidence to make personal choices unaffected by outside pressures • To know about and make choices about personal safety • To teach children to celebrate and value diversity of family life • To provide correct information for boys and girls and eliminate worries and misconceptions with regards relationships, sex and puberty As a parent or carer you are a key person for your child learning about relationships and sex. Our school works in partnership with you and keeps you informed of our RSE programme. Promoting lifelong learning about physical, emotional and moral development.

This means that each year themes are revisited and build on previous learning. It runs alongside our SEAL(Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) curriculum and our pastoral care which is ongoing and continuous. You can support your child by reading books, leaflets Talking to them while you are doing something else; washing up, driving, having a cup of tea Listen rather than judge. Try asking what they think. Answer questions as honestly as you can. If it feels too personal, try talking about people in books, films and favourite TV programmes
