Matter Matter- anything that has mass and takes up space. If all of the objects you see (and some your can’t, think air) why do they look so different from one another?

Elements Some matter is made of only one type of atom which are called elements.
Elements are organized • Elements are organized based on their size on the Periodic Table of Elements. • Activity: • Look at the periodic table of elements. • Find elements that are common in your everyday life such as items at home or school. • Make a list of those elements and what they are used for. • Are some elements more commonly found than others? • Infer why many of the elements are not “everyday” or common elements.
What happens when atoms combine? When atoms combine they form different types of matter. Most objects, even you, are built of a combination of atoms.
