Selected Projects • In 2013 high interest for new projects from German owners, e.g.: • Hapag-Lloyd - Future C.V. with 13-14,000 TEU, TierIII • Bertram Rickmers - 5,000 & 10,000 TEU with 6S80ME-C & 8S90ME-C • ER Schiffahrt - 6,400 TEU with G80ME-C • NSC - 9,000 TEU with 9S90ME-C • Harren & Partner - dock ship / heavy lift with 8S35ME-B & 5S50ME-B • Krey - MPC with 5G45ME-B • Marlink - MPC with 6G45ME-B • Hartmann - 5,000 m³ LPG tanker with 5S35ME-LPGI • Braren - MPP with 5S46ME-B • FSG - special vessel / bulker with 7G50ME-B • Wallem - 36,000 dwt bulker with 5S50ME-B
Trends in Ship Design • Focus on emissions NOx, SOx and CO2 (EEDI) • Focus on G-type, GI-engines, EGR, scrubbers • Interest in high efficient propellers and aft-end solutions • Higher flexibility – part load and low load operation • Custom made engines, tailor-made solutions • Highly specialized propulsion systems
Difficult GenSet Market • Technical problems on license built GenSets 16/24, 21/31, 27/38 • Quality problems at licensees and their sub-suppliers • Price level • Himsen is very aggressive, esp. in China • New licensors like Daihatsu, Yanmar etc. offer lower prices than MDT licensees in China • DF GenSets required for future vessels • MAN licensees need to improve engines’ quality • Danger: MAN image gets further damaged
Summary Germany • Aggressive competition in China, Wärtsilä increases influence at licensees (Hudong, CMD) • Closer contact between MDT-HH and licensees (CMD, STX, …) • Be aware of GenSets’ quality, 16/24… • German owners team-up and co-operate more and more • Interest in Dual Fuel, but price gap between LNG and liquid fuels difficult to predict, as well as the future supply • Trend to big container vessels (80 – 90 bore) • Trend to 2-stroke engines on small vessels like bulkers, modern feeder-vessels, MPCs or specialized vessels (35 – 50 bore) • Tailor-made solutions!
