PPPL Traveler Action Plan • Purpose • Provide travelers with information to be used in the event of war or terrorist activity
Why Now? • Caught off guard on September 11, 2001 • Travelers were uncertain of what actions they could take • Proactive stance seemed appropriate at this time
Prior to Travel • Need to Travel should be carefully considered • Maintain Quick Access List • Establish Traveler Contact Center • Traveler Reviews State Department Alerts • Traveler Should Have Emergency Travel Kit
Need to Travel • Necessity of trip should be carefully considered • Is it possible to postpone trip without jeopardizing Laboratory Mission
Maintain Quick Access List • Supervisors should be aware of staff members planning or on travel status • List of travelers on maintained by Travel Office • List of travelers available on Travel Website
Traveler Contact Center • PPPL Travel Office during business hours • PPPL Supervisor • Travel Agency 24/7 call number • PPPL Security
Traveler Assistance • United States Embassy Location and Phone Number will be provided by Travel Office for foreign travel • Consider taking extra cash, medication,etc • Travel Office will provide information on alternate carriers/modes of transportation
While On Travel • Traveler to Confirm Location and Contact Information • Maintain Low Profile and Seek Refuge • Traveler Permitted to Return Home
Confirm Location and Contact Information • Confirm arrival at each location by phone or email • Verify business and after hours contact numbers
In Country Actions • Do not Advertise your Citizenship or Government Affiliation • Stay Away from Demonstrations • Seek Refuge at US Embassy if you feel threatened • Contact US Embassy if you need Emergency Assistance
Returning Home • Attempt to notify PPPL if you choose to return home early • Attempt to contact Laboratory before changing carriers or class of service • Communications Disruptions • Support provided if no air service available
