  3. Location and climate of South Korea • located in East Asia • Bound by North Korea, Yellow Sea and Sea of Korea • mountainous • Winter is dry and cold • Siberian air • Summer is hot and humid • Pacific air

  4. Korean music • Pansori: traditional • Lyrics tell one of five different stories • Pungmul: drumming • Samul Nori: rhythmic patterns - fast • BEAST and 4minute: popular groups in Asia • Wondergirls’ song placed in U.S Top 100

  5. Korean foods -Grain: important diet -Soup: main dish • Four soup categories - maleunguk, tojangguk, gomguk, and naengguk • Kimchi: main vegetable dish - Contains cabbage, chili pepper, ginger

  6. Korean clothing • Hanbok - fit loosely - natural materials and dyes • characterized by vibrant colors, simple lines - wear at festivals • Jeogori: short jacket - harmoniously goes with full skirt

  7. Korean festivals • Chusok: most important festival - Korean thanksgiving - Visit relatives - thank ancestors for providing food • Sul-nal : Korean New Year - Eat dduckguk for good luck
