Consequences • Family breakdown, • Anger, dismay and despair on parents, • Distress on young people (Lim et al 2009), • Depression on elderly people (Mui and King 2006), • Acculturative stress (Berry et al 1987; William and Berry 1991).
Coping strategies: Family HARMONY Program Community development model • Promotes effective communication within families, • Training of bi-lingual facilitators, • To facilitate sessions for parents and children, • Empowering the target group, • Promotes dialogue between parents and young people, • Apply win-win method to resolve conflicts, • Assist families to become more confidence.
Cont’ Collaborative Integrated Model • Work in partnership with other service providers and communities, • Cultural sensitive and cultural appropriateness, • Assisting the target group to have better skills of family conflict resolution, dealing with family power struggle, how to react to conflict and negotiation.
