  3. About the 24-Credit Program

  4. At YWPA… • Students graduate with: • 5 Math credits • 5 Science credits • 3 Spanish credits

  5. Dual Enrollment and Early Admission • Allows eligible high school students to enroll in post-secondary courses. • Credits earned: • Both: • High school credit • College credit towards a degree or technical certificate. • All 24 Florida colleges and some state universities participate in Dual Enrollment. • The courses can be taken: • Part-time basis during school hours. • After School • During Summer

Students do not have to pay anything. • Textbooks to students are provided free of charge. • The grades obtained through dual enrollment at Florida colleges and universities will become part of the permanentpost-secondary record. • States universities will not admit a student who has less than a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

  7. Advanced Placement Program (AP) • Nationwide program by The College Board. • Consists of: • YWPA offers 14 AP Classes College Level Courses: • If student earns a passing score of a 3 or above earns: • College Credit • AP credit • Or both, depending on the college or university. • MDCPS students do not have to pay for the AP exams. • More than 90% of 4 year colleges and universities have AP Policies For more questions visit: <www.collegeboard.com/shareAP>

What are Common Core StateStandards? • Rigorous, research-based standards for mathematics, and English- language arts and literacy in history/social studies, science, and technical subjects for grades K-12 • Designed to prepare the nation’s students with the knowledge and skills needed for success in college and the workforce • Internationally benchmarked to ensure that students will be globally competitive • A clear and consistent educational framework • A collaborative effort that builds on the best of current state standards

Implementation of the Florida secondary school redesign act amendment Algebra 1 – The EOC assessment must be passed in order to earn credit for the course Geometry – The EOC assessment must be passed in order to earn credit for the course Biology 1 - The EOC assessment must be passed in order to earn credit for the course Algebra 2 – Required for graduation Chemistry or Physics – Or equivalent science course required for graduation U.S. History – The EOC assessment will be 30% of all students’ final grade for the course going forward
