You are in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade, Congratulations!Are you prepared for high school? Let’s discuss what you can be doing NOW to be prepared for high school.
1.) Perfect your study habits Creating and perfecting your study habits now is going to play a big role in becoming a successful student later. Below are some tips to help you to develop a study routine… • Plan specific times for studying • Try to study at the same time each day • Plan to study in a TV, cell phone, or music free zone • Work on the assignments that are the most difficult first • Two heads are better than one, so if you’re having difficulty in a certain subject, pair up with a study buddy
2.) Ask for help If there is something that you are unsure of or don’t understand make sure you are asking for help before class, during class, and even after class. Below are a few reasons why it’s important to ask for help… • You will have a clearer understanding of the material • Often times if you have a question about something, your classmates will as well • You are more likely to do well in a class if you understand the material you are being taught
Who should I ask for help? • Teacher • Guidance Counselor • Your family- parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles • Another student • Librarians at your school or the local public library
3.) Get Involved! The fun doesn’t have to end at 3pm, join something fun that you’re interested in… • Join an after school program • Join a club in your school • Play a sport
What subjects should I take in high school? • Work with your guidance counselor every year to pick your classes • Make sure you are taking classes in English, social studies, mathematics, science, and foreign language • Talk to your guidance counselor about honors and Advanced Placement classes
