  1. JHH Physiotherapy in ED • Potential need for extended hours physiotherapy service @ JHH ED identified • Need identified from audit of after hours referral book, feedback and anecdotal evidence • Audit indicated 50% PT referrals were after business hours- Fri, Sat, Sun

  2. JHH Physiotherapy in ED • Trial initiated by JHH PT in Mar 06 for a period of 3/12 • Coverage included till 6 pm weekdays and 4 hrs coverage over Sat/Sun • Weekend coverage occurred across an 8 hour period

  3. JHH Physiotherapy in ED • Data suggests service was responsive to patient need, cost effective and helped prevent admissions. Cost benefit approx 115 K-conservative est. • PT secured ongoing service for weekend cover

  4. JHH Physiotherapy in ED • Response time < 15 min in 90 % cases • Facilitated discharge in 56 % cases referred on Sat/Sun • Representation rate (within 2 days) with PT intervention was 2.9% c.f. 10 % without
