Modelserver stages or facets • A File storage • May be of a coordiniated format and be shared between different applications. • E.g. IFC files stored on file server. • B. Model storage • Store a model behind database technology. • To enable analysis, validation, calculations etc. • To enable later retrieval - but in the same units. • C. Model share • Partial models can be extracted from the server • D. Model merge and share • The server can merge partial models • E. Model collaborate. Open (IFC) BIM database system • Can exchange partial models in and out through an API • Can support update transactions
The HIBO project step by step (1)Using IFC BIM from the beginning • Define buiding requirements • Room programming (and equipment) • Registering requirements in dRofus (room programming tool) • Export of room requirements/constraints to EDMModelServer • Establising the project collaboration model from dRofus (room programming tool). • dRofus is a True IFC BIM collaborating application :)) • Generate room volumes in the from dRofus EDMModelServer • Achitectual design • Import requirements and room volumes to Archicad • Do the architectual design in Archicad • Export Architectual design to EDMModelServer • Import to separate architect model (new version of architect model) • Merge in current project collaboration model
Room programming - dRofus • Internet based client-server software developed by Nosyko in Norway.
The HIBO project step by step (2)Using IFC BIM from the beginning • The building structure ingineer, HVAC and electrical engineer downloads the architect model to their own IFC compatible software. • Directly from the modelserver (if possible) or …. • Directly from the native Archicad format • Structure, HVAC and electrical - modelling and engineering - is done in their prefered software. • IFC files are exported back to the modellserver. • To their own domain specific repository • Merged to the collaboration model in the common repository • The syclus of exporting from modelserver and merging back in is repeated many times. • Each time creating a model version in the modelserver • At the main milestones in the project a specific model is ”frosen” and published.
The HIBO project step by step (3)Using IFC BIM from the beginning • Tender model can be created (Allthough not in the HIBO project since this building is allready built) • To be used for calculations by the contractor and also the client . • Will be the contractual model between client and contractor in the future Design, requirements, constraints, specific products not selected yet • But we are not there yet • The collaboration modell will be continously enriched by the contractor during the building process. • Finally selected products (building elements) and sollutions • Documentation • Operational instructions • Experiences • Finally handed over to Facility Management. • The IFC format is managed by a conservative organisation to ensure that it is • Forever backwards compatible • Changes very slowly and the changes ar carefull considered by many people from different nations
Different Models at different stages Slide provided by
Process Terminology Digital Storage Interoperability through standards IFD Library (ISO 12006-3) IDM (ISO TC59 SC13) IFC (ISO 16739) Built Environment (AEC-BIM)
Interoperability through standards • Terminology - IFD • Concepts • Subject, Property, Unit, Nest, Bag, Value • Relations • Is type of, can be, consists of, relates to …. • Process model - IDM • Which roles can exchange what sort of information in the different project stages • Exchange requirements • What must, should or could be exchanged - refering to IFC concepts • Related to the process model - by who and when. • Digital storage - IFC • Persistent storage of data in an application independent format • The building owner selects a permanent storage format
