Purpose • Advise others about common human failings • Universal in truth • Uses literary devices to covey complicated ideas in few words Early African usage of proverbs: • Used as tools of argument/debate • To settle legal disputes • Teach children traditional values/beliefs

  3. Turn to page 515. • Choose one to write. • Choose two to present. • All members must work together. • All answers are neat and reflect critical thought!!!

  4. For each proverb, give the meaning and give an example based on real life experiences. Complete 4. • Group 1- Ashanti Proverbs • Group 2 – Senegal Proverbs • Group 3 – Guinea and Sierra Leone Proverbs • Group 4 – Kenya and Burundi Proverbs • Group 5 – Ethiopia Proverbs

  5. Be Unique, Be you… • Individually: Choose a proverb that is particularly meaningful to you and describe how you have experienced the truth of that proverb in your own life. Illustrate the meaning somehow. Be creative and use color!
