  2. Problem • Medication error & polypharmacy are critical issues in healthcare • A more informed patient is a better patient • Patients and their caregivers must be good historians • Memory fails – particularly during stress • Results in errors, waste, & harm

  3. Helping Patients Manage Meds • PHR (personal health record) • “Owned” by the patient • Managed by the patient (with help if necessary) • Why? • Help patients and caregivers keep better records • Help patients and caregivers to be more active in their healthcare

  4. MyMedMinder • Designed as web-based • Easy to use • Users can print or save to computer/memory stick

  9. Final Usability Testing • Subjects – 6 (4 Male; 2 Female) • Age range – 24 – 79 • Average # of Meds – 3 • Computer Experience – 4 months to 8 years • Procedure • Given 3 example labels from Rx bottles and asked to enter • Post-test evaluation tool (based on QUIS)

  10. Results? • Overall Rxn (scale of 1-5) 3.5 • Appearance of Material (1-5) 3 • Saving & Editing Ease (1-5) 3 • Easy to learn & use (1-5) 3.25 • Comments: • Med entry little confusing (terms) • Need a way to delete “all” • Unsure about OTC
