  2. Introduction This week we begin work on Unit 4: Tourist Destinations. The first session looks at: • how to get useful reference materials, and • the research skills you need

  3. Sources of Information • Travel and tourism magazines, journals and other publications • Learning resource centre texts • TV travel/holiday programmes • Web sites (FCO, CIA, UN, WTO, WTTC and many others!)

  4. Words of Warning • But be careful over using Web sites in particular • Can you trust the information you get? • If not already done so, students should visit… • Travel and Tourism Virtual Training Suite (URL in Activity)

  5. What’s the Point? It’s important that you can identify: • countries of the world • continents and regions • sources of reliable travel information

  6. This Means You Need.. • Global knowledge • Access to information on specific countries • Sources of information on travel planning • To know that the information you get is reliable

  7. Follow the Tasks in the Activity To: • Identify countries and their continents/regions • Gather information about the countries you identify • Investigate travel options in the UK and EU

  8. Finally • Remember that you must check that the information you get is trustworthy • Always keep a record of where you found the information you’re using • Produce a bibliography (list of sources) for all your coursework
