  2. Window oneThe Baptism At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised by John in the Jordan. Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: ‘You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.’ Mark 1:10-11 . Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight/well pleased. Isaiah 42:1 Jesus is the Suffering Servant of Isaiah.

  3. Window TwoThe Wedding Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, ‘How is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?’ Jesus answered, ‘How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them. But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and on that day they will fast. Mark 2:18-20 By oppression and judgement he was taken away….He was cut off from the land of then living Isaiah 53:8 As the Suffering Servant Jesus will suffer a violent death

Window ThreeCaesarea Philippi He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him… But … Jesus …rebuked Peter. ‘Get behind me, Satan!’ he said. ‘You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.’ Mark 8:31-33 Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer. Isaiah 53:10 Jesus will suffer as part of God’s pre-ordained plan of salvation

  5. Window FourThe Mount of Transfiguration After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus. Mark 9:2-4 ‘He was led like a sheep to the slaughter… The eunuch asked Philip, ‘Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?’ Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. Acts 8:32-35 Jesus' death is fulfilment of prophecies such as Isaiah 53.

Window FiveJesus’ understanding of his mission For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’ Mark 10:45 For he bore the sins of many and made intercession for the transgressors Isaiah 53:12 Jesus' death, as the Suffering Servant, was a sacrifice for the sins of others

  7. The Death of Jesus For whom? For YOU For what? For YOUR sins • Were the whole realm of nature mine, • That were a present far too small; • Love so amazing, so divine, • Demands my soul, my life, my all.
