  1. Happenings • Chris gave the HSCP Approval talk today • Passed – congratulations! Big 2011+12 combo result – 5 analyses! • I created a CSC “box” for “Post-LS1 Upgrades” • To be led by Alexei Safonov • Julie helping clean up the ISR • (safety inspection Jan. 31 delayed to mid Feb.) • Her spare board count: • RAT 60, TMB 26 (supposedly additional “bad” boards 22 at CERN, 8 at UCLA). • Need 72 of each. • Send bad TMBs back to UCLA?

  2. Happenings • STEP tests at P5: • Karoly having trouble with CFEB noise test and other CFEB testing, just at Point 5 • Today met with Greg, Evaldas, Misha: • To check delays at B904 using DMB timing/”scope” registers • Then check with real system at P5 on Feb. 11 • Next time system available: May??

  3. Interesting notes • Lots of CMS management changes coming: • Spring-time Spokesperson election (then whole new “cabinet” by summer) • Summertime selection of USCMS leader to replace Joel, Dan Marlow, new Fermilab Director • University programs getting squeezed: • We have our DOE base budget numbers for 2013-2015, they are very tight

  4. Notes from XEB retreat Jan. 25-26 • See https://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=231231 • See my “CSC past, present, and future” talk at https://www.dropbox.com/s/8hqioub6ka416uj/130126_CSC_hauser.pptx • Phase 2 upgrade likely 300M ChF • R&D maybe additional 15-20% of that • Tracker ~120M, large parts of ECAL replaced, etc. • Service work, i.e. making the experiment work: • Do permanent jobs in HEP really go to people who mainly do data analysis, or not? • Not really known, would be interesting to quantify • Spokesperson/deputy encouraged to talk to large groups and those that do not pull their fair share – MOUs?

  5. CRB delivery of 3.30v to TMB • +-5% tolerance means absolute maximum of 3.465v • Data from all Point 5 values by Evaldas: • It looks like nominal setting is 3.35v • Max spread of 0.05 indicates that nominal could be increased to 3.40v • Could be done in conjunction with additional stiffening of the CRB board by clamps, to avoid loosening of the CRBs, if they were designed…
