Patricia’s Early Life • Patricia was born in Lansing, Michigan in 1944. • Her parents divorced when she was 3 years old. Her mom, brother and her moved in with her grandparents on their farm in Union City , Michigan. • In 1949 her Babushka (grandmother ) died and they prepared to leave Michigan. • Her Babushka had a big influence on her life. She is the inspiration for a lot of Patricia’s stories. • She spent most of her young life in Oakland, California . She had a lot of difficulty in school. Patricia did not learn to read until she was almost 14 years old! She suffers from dyslexia.
Patricia’s Middle Life • Patricia majored in Fine Arts and eventually received her Ph.D. in Art History. • Patricia has two children, Steven and Traci. • At the age of 41 Patricia became a beloved children’s author.
The Patricia That We Know and Love • Art has always been important to her. A symptom of dyslexia is the ability to draw. • She encourages everyone to listen to the voice inside their head, everyone has the ability to do whatever they set their mind to. • Her house in Union City, Michigan is open for writing seminars, story telling festivals, and various events that celebrate literature.
