Under the umbrella of the RiccallSportsfield Association and collaborating with all existing community tenants, our proposal is to: • demolish the existing tennis and bowling club houses; • build a new pavilion to accommodate the changing, toilet and storage requirements of the local clubs for the foreseeable future; • build a multi-user games area (MUGA) on site to provide year round access to more sports on the site; and • complete groundworks to improve access, including for disabled.

Detailed Proposal Our proposed pavilion would be two stories high, with the changing, toilet and storage facilities on the ground floor and a common meeting room and kitchenette on the first floor, with views across the tennis courts to the north, bowling green to the south and new football pitches to the east. By installing a concrete floor with a timber finish, we can also accommodate short mat bowling, which makes bowling a year round activity and may change the age profile of participants. The provision of changing rooms and toilets would enable maximum participation in sports on the facilities and, more significantly, allow numerous sports events to take place simultaneously. Ground floor facilities would allow easy disabled access and open up opportunities for more disabled sports, such as wheelchair tennis, and a lift would allow access to the first floor. A new MUGA possiblysited on the west site of the Regen would be fenced and floodlit, enabling a range of sports to take place into the evenings. Users of the MUGA would have access to the changing and toilet facilities in the pavilion. The MUGA would also enable new sports, such as basketball and hockey to be played on the site. The groundworks would increase car parking provision on the site, enable access between the Westfield and the main site and improved safe passage for pedestrians and participants. It would provide better disabled access to the site and include covered viewing platforms on the north and south side for tennis and bowling respectively. When do we want to do it? We would like to begin this work in summer 2013 and complete it by spring 2014, to align with the increased use of the Westfield. How much will it cost? Detailed costings have not yet been obtained, but our initial estimates are: Demolition and disposal: £ 20,000 New pavilion (c 230m2): £250,000 MUGA: £115,000 Groundworks : £ 75,000 Total:£460,000 We plan to bid to Sport England’s Iconic Facilities Fund for the majority of this. How will this benefit our community? • It will enable us to maximize use of the existing and planned sporting facilities to meet current need and to realise the benefits of the existing investment. • We would be able to expand the existing sports to more people to meet unmet need. • We would be able to offer new sports that cannot be accessed easily at the moment in the area, such as hockey, netball and basketball. • We would be able to extend the participants to disadvantaged groups, such as the disabled. • This provides an opportunity for further community cohesion by bringing clubs and organisations closer together and building stronger links with schools and local organisations.
