Chapter 1: Boarding Schools… Who Needs Them In the first chapter, you meet Percy Jackson. Percy is a dyslexic kid who also has been diagnosed with ADHD. He has been kicked out of 5 boarding schools already, and is on the verge of getting kicked out of Yancy Academy. When he go’s on a field trip to New York City to see the Museum of Natural history, led by Mr. Brunner, the Latin teacher in 6th grade, a lot go’s wrong. When they were eating lunch at the museum, Percy “accidentally” slashes the math teacher, Mrs. Dobbs, into powder with a ballpoint pen given to him by Mr. Brunner. When he comes back out, Grover, his best friend and everybody else denies ever knowing of a person named Mrs. Dobbs.
Chapter 2: The 3 old ladies • In this chapter, Percy gets expelled at the end of his semester, after his little “accident”… and leaves on a bus back to Manhattan accompanied by Grover Underwood. When the bus breaks down on the highway, 3 old lady’s who are knitting, happen to be across the street. Then, the ladies cut a LONG piece of yarn, and Grover gets scared of this, asking to accompany Percy back to his apartment, freaky ehh? But, Percy ditches Grover and returns to his loving Mom, and stepdad Gabe. Although Gabe is just a really drunken smelly guy, who mostly eats and plays poker.
Chapter: Grover is a WHAT? Once Percy is back home, he gets hounded by his stepdad Gabe and gets surprised when his mom comes home and says that he is going to Montauk beach with his mom, the place where his mom met his original dad, someone who disappeared mysteriously after sailing away. Unfortunately, the vacation go’s terribly wrong and Grover appears without his pants... And instead of pants, he appears in fur and instead of shoes, hooves.
Chapter 4: Bulls and Cars Are All You Need • Ok, listen, Grover, Percy’s mom, and Percy get in a car and speed down Long Island to get to a place that only Percy does not where it is. As they are racing, the car flips over, and Grover gets knocked down, while after a little screaming, Percy’s mom gets grabbed by some odd half-man/half-bull and dissolves her. Percy then gets mad, gets the thing to run into a tree, and pulls off its horn, then somehow killing it. He then drags Grover to the hill they were talking about, at least safety.
Chapter’s 5+6+7: Camp Half-Blood • Once, to safety, Percy passes out and is taken care of by some people in a big farm house. Also when he wakes up, Mr. Brunner happens to be playing Pinochle with Mr. D, the camp counselor. After some questions, Percy figures out that he is the son of one of the Greek gods, and the Mr. D is actually the wine god: Dionysius. Also, Grover is a satyr. Percy is at a camp where other people who are half-god and half-mortal train and play and live in safety. The campers of the Ares Cabin (the god of war) led by Clarisse, try to douse Percy in a toilet but get doused themselves by Percy who had no idea he did anything. After learning that he is staying with the Hermes Cabin (god of thieves, travelers, and messengers) campers until his godly parent claims him. At dinner, he finds out that he loves the unlimited… anything he can eat, but has to burn some of his food to the gods to please them. He prays to find out who his dad is. Chiron (Mr. Brunner who is really a centaur) announces that Capture the Flag will happen Friday.
Chapter’s 8+9: The Flag and the quest • Capture the flag is led by Athena (the goddess of wisdom) cabin who is led by Annabeth, and Ares cabin. After some fun getting beat up, Percy is cornered by Ares cabin, about to die, and somehow gets healed by the river. After he kicks some but, a trident appears above his bed, not good… This means that Poseidon (god of the sea, earthquakes and horses) has claimed Percy as his son. Badly enough, he is one of the more powerful gods that swore not to have any kids after WW2, meaning that he broke his promise. Also Percy almost gets killed by a hellhound (a giant dog monster) and gets offered a quest to save earth as we know it. Apparently, since the winter, Zeus (sky god) and Poseidon have been fighting over whether Poseidon stole Zeus's lightning bolt, and Percy is supposed to go to the underworld and return the bolt before the summer solstice in 10 days or basically, nature will fight itself. After visiting the Oracle (the prophecy maker), Percy takes Annabeth, and Grover along with Chiron’s Riptide, the bronze sword. Then they were off. Luke also gave Percy some flying shoes that were given to Grover.
In chapter 10, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover set out on the quest and end up on a greyhound going south out of Manhattan, and happen to meet Mrs. Dobbs again, who happens to be a fury (kindly one) and meets the other two kindly ones. There, they fight and Percy kills 2 of them, but has to run from the other when Zeus strikes the bus with lighting. Then, running away from the scene of the crime, and the tourists, they escape into the New Jersey woods. After chapter 10, the gang wanders the woods for a couple of hours until they accidentally come across Aunty Em’s Garden Gnome Emporium. There an old middle eastern women named Aunty Em invites the gang into the warehouse to eat some food, and there surprises them with her being Medusa. Percy fights Medusa with Riptide, while Grover flew in with giant branches hitting Medusa. Once Percy chops her head off, he sends it to Olympus, and they go back off to continue the quest. Chapter 10+11The Bus and the Garden
Chapter 12: The Poodle helps • In this short chapter, Grover explains that he needs to help Percy survive so that he can get his license to search for Pan (the nature god). Then after going to sleep, Percy has a nightmare, where a voice from a pit talks to him, scaring him. Then, when he wakes up, Grover and Annabeth are saying hello to a poodle, who says that he will willingly go back to his owner if it means that the gang will get the money to take a train west from the owners of the poodle. The gang is off yet again.
Chapters 13+14: The Chihuahua is not happy • When the train stops in St. Louis, Annabeth takes Grover and Percy to look at the St. Louis Arc, and while going down from the top, Percy gets into a fight with a Chihuahua and an Enchilada? No, into a fight with the fearsome Echidna and her son, the fire-breathing lion size Chimera. After losing a fight with them, he jumps off the Arc and lands safely in the Mississippi river because of his dad. There, a water spirit tells him to meet her at the Santa Monica pier in L.A. Finally back on the train to Denver, the exhausted group leaves.
Chapter 15: Meet Ares the War God • Once to Denver, the gang go’s to a carwash and sends an Iris message to Luke. Then, at a diner, they meet Ares (god of war), and he buys them food and gets them a ride in exchange for a favor. They go to an old water park and try to retrieve a shield and a scarf for Aphrodite (god of love). But, Hephaestus (god of metalwork), Aphrodite’s real husband, traps them in a boat, with millions of gold spiders and are about to be filmed to Olympus as a laughing-stock when Percy causes water to take them out of the tunnel and they retrieve the shield.
Chapter 16: Zebra’s, Lion’s, and Casinos • When the gang figures out that their ride west is an illegal animal truck, they get crammed into a small truck with a zebra, lion, and an antelope. As mad as they are, once they stop in Vegas, they wander the strip until a doorman invites them into the Lotus Casino/Hotel. There, a free game room and sweet is free to them, and as if in a trance, they play games for 5 DAYS! When they figure this out, they immediately run away from the hotel. There they look for a taxi to L.A.
Chapter 17: The Stretcher • When they take a ride in a taxi to L.A. Percy stops at the Santa Monica Pier and Percy talks to the spirit again to take a gift, 3 safety pearls. Then after wandering through L.A. they come across a water bed shop. There Crusty (Procrusties) tries to stretch Annabeth and Grover to 6 feet long, but Percy lures Crusty into his own bed, and chops his own head off. Wahoo, one monster dead. The gang finds the underworld and heads there.
Chapters 18+19: The Underworld • Once to DEA Recording Studios (entrance to underworld), the gang has to bribe Charon (secretary of underworld) to let them down even though there not dead. Once down there, they have another obstacle to get by: Cerberus. When Annabeth gets Cerberus to play fetch with a red rubber ball though, they enter. Once in, they visit the pit of Tartarus (prison of Kronos) and almost get sucked in when Grover’s shoes go wild. Finally, once in Hades palace, they confront Hades, and Percy talks to his uncle. After Hades starts an earthquake, Percy figures out that Hades did not steal the master bolt, and lost his helm. When Percy uses his pearls to save the three and not his in-hostage form mom, they float safely to the beach where they meet Ares on the beach.
Chapter 20: Have You Battled your Relative Today? • When he meets Ares, Percy figures out that Ares had found the stealers of the emblems, but took them and kept them. With this, Percy fights Ares in a swordfight on the beach and comes out as the victor when he cuts Ares ankle. But instead of incinerating Percy there, he just leaves. After winning, the police and media (who saw the fight) think that Percy is not guilty of being a criminal and gets money from a little fundraiser, then FLYS (even though he could have died) to New York to confront his Dad and his other uncle.
Chapter 21: Olympus • Once back to New York, Percy go’s up to the 600th floor in the empire state building, and meets his father, and Zeus. There, he returns the master bolt, and his father tells him that he is proud of him, and is glad that he is his father. Then, after the confrontation, he go’s home to his mom and step dad. There, he finds his mom safe, because Hades returned her when he got his helm back. He finds Medusa’s head back on his bed, and lets his mom decide what to do about Gabe. When he returns to Camp Half-Blood, he is greeted happily.
Chapter 22: The End • This is a secret chapter, but when Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood, he finds everybody happy to see him, and then, at the July 4th party, Fireworks are displayed and all that. At the end of the summer, Percy meets Luke in the arena, and they have an important discussion witch you must read the story to figure out.
Summary of Book • In the first book of this series, Percy Jackson figures out that his dad is Poseidon, and he is a half-blood. When he figures out that Greek gods are real, and that his dad is in trouble, he sets out on a quest with his Athena born friend Annabeth and his Satyr friend Grover to find the Master bolt that was stolen from Zeus before a 10 day deadline expires. If he fails, the entire world will be forced into World War 3. He must meet his father, make alliances, and learn to fight so that the world will not be thrown into an oblivion.
