  3. Recruitment of tutors • all from within school • recently retired staff • subject areas • English • mathematics • humanities • modern foreign languages • technology • drama • ICT

  4. Which students? • students stuck on a level across 2 terms • students making slow progress • students needing a boost to reach level 5 at the end of the key stage

  5. Organisation • students not tutored by own class teacher • letter home to parent/carers inviting them to a meeting • preparation meeting involving: • 1) moderation of some work • 2) meeting with class teacher • 3) looking at tutees work • 4) completion of Individual Tuition Plan (ITP) • 5) meeting with parent

  6. Organisation • sessions held in the library at the end of the school day (some during the school day) • juice and chocolate provided to tutor and tutee • passport completed at each session and taken home • 5 or 10 week blocks

  7. Positives • intervention for ‘hidden’, ‘middle’ students • personalisation • improved student attainment • boost to student confidence • popular with parents/carers • CPD tool for staff • develops a different pedagogy

  8. Issues • recruitment • safety – staff and students • parent/carer ‘special needs’ concern • needs to be co-ordinated
