The Bodiam Castle was built in 1385 by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge to discourage French raids.
It is in East Sussex and it was also used as a military stronghold.
Features The Bodiam Castle was an excellent example of a medieval, moated castle.
It has crenellated battlements and is reached by no less than 3 drawbridges and a barbican.
Used for a military base and comfortable living space untill 1664 when it fell into decay.
In 1917 Lord Curzon bought it and restored it . He then gave it to the National Trust in 1926 when he died.
People who have lived in it. Sir Edward Dalyngrigge, Richard II, Richard III, William Waller who took it over. It was beaten by his Parliamentary Army and was made uninhabitable.
Remains The exterior remains mostly intact the interior has been redone many times.
