  3. Competitors’ Flag Seminar Role of a Flag Marshal • To give advanced warning of a situation ahead to an oncoming competitor • To instruct an oncoming competitor to obey certain restrictions or to carry out certain actions.

  6. Competitors’ Flag Seminar Yellow/Red Striped Flag Standing Regulation 16 WARNING OF SLIPPERY SURFACE(e.g. oil, rain, dirt, etc). The adhesion of this section of track could be affected by any reason. This flag is shown motionless at the flag marshals post

  7. Competitors’ Flag Seminar White Flag Standing Regulation 16 Warning that a NON-COMPETING vehicle is on the circuit, This could be for example an official vehicle such as a safety car, an ambulance etc.

  8. Competitors’ Flag Seminar Yellow Flag with Black Cross Standing Regulation 16 LAST LAP Flag This flag is displayed to the rider from the start finish line and indicates that the rider is commencing his/her last racing lap of the circuit.

  10. Competitors’ Flag Seminar Yellow Flag – Held Motionless Standing Regulation 17 The Yellow Flag held motionless is a direct instruction to the rider to SLOW DOWN Overtaking is Forbidden. Should a rider inadvertently (i.e. a preceding rider slows at a faster rate), once it is safe to do so, (s)he should return to the original position and may raise hid/her hand to indicate same.

  11. Competitors’ Flag Seminar Yellow Flag - Waved Standing Regulation 17 The Yellow Flag waved is a direct instruction to the rider to SLOW DOWN and PREPARE TO STOP Overtaking is Forbidden. Should a rider inadvertently (i.e. a preceding rider slows at a faster rate), once it is safe to do so, (s)he should return to the original position and may raise hid/her hand to indicate same .

  12. Competitors’ Flag Seminar Red Flag Standing Regulation 17 The use of the red flag indicates that RACING HAS BEEN STOPPED Overtaking is Forbidden. Riders should slow back down and may be instructed to return to the starting grid or paddock, as decided by the Clerk of Course (CoC). A rider may raise his/her hand to acknowledge a red flag Red Flag – To be shown on the authority of the CoC at designated points when racing or practice has been interrupted.

Competitors’ Flag Seminar Black Flag Standing Regulation 17 The black Flag will be displayed motionless with a board displaying a rider’s race number (usually at the start finish line) There is a SERIOUS PROBLEM and the rider must pull off the racing line and stop in a safe position with the utmost care and attention. The rider must report to the CoC.

  14. Competitors’ Flag Seminar National Flag Standing Regulation 17 The national flag may be used to start the race. In the event of the national flag being used you will receive clear instruction from the race starter

Competitors’ Flag Seminar Chequered Flag Standing Regulation 17 When the leading rider has completed therequired number of laps (s)he will be shown the chequered flag by an official standing at the start finish line The chequered flag will continue to be shown to all subsequent riders. Once arider receives a chequered flag (s)he must proceed safely to the paddock using the designated route
