T-shirt Printing • There are many different types of printing method that can be used for print T-shirts. • The method that suits you may depend on what the purpose of the T-shirt is. • 5 different methods that can be used for printing T-shirts.
1. Screen Printing • Screen printing is one of the most common methods used. • It uses a stencil and nylon mesh. • This method is most frequently printing high-quality T-shirt designs.
2. Direct To Garments (DTG) • It's a similar principle to paper printing in an office with the only major difference being that the design is going onto textile rather than paper. • This method is excellent for complex designs and as the dye is so thin, it is soft to touch. • DTG is one of the least durable printing methods so best suited to one-off garments.
3. Dye Sublimation • This is a great technique that is often used on lighter coloured shirts. • The initial setup costs are quite high although the shirts have a very professional finish when done by experts. • The dye works well on fabrics such as polyester but is less effective on cotton.
4. Heat Press Printing • This is the perfect method if you are looking for small quantities and is relatively quick. • Your design will be printed on transfer paper. • The transfer is then placed on the shirt and then heat and pressure are applied much as in the case with dye sublimation.
5. Vinyl Cutting • This technique involves using a special soft clothing is cut into shapes or designs, then transferred to a shirt. • The designs are then placed on a T-shirt and heat and pressure are again applied. • This is great for one off designs but not practical for large orders as exact replicas are hard to create.
