Workshop Goals • Participants will: • Learn how the NSF Project will support the PI Forums • Begin preparing an application
PI Forum • Need • At PI Meeting, PIs recognize a common interest and want to build an on-going interaction ultimately leading to joint activities • After PI Meeting, they struggle to find the time and means to build the interaction, and it eventually is forgotten • NSF grant to explore a community-building model for ongoing, virtual, collaborative efforts among TUES PIs • Facilitated, structured approach to encourage and help build these collaborations
Types of PI Forums • Special interest in collaborations dealing with evaluation, dissemination, broadening participation, and transformation • Other ideas welcome • Examples: • PIs working with a common instructional approach or area • Share and develop evaluation approaches and data • Form a group dissemination effort • Create a shared, interactive repository • PIs working with underrepresented students • Explore impact on a broader scale
Project Leaders Responsibilities • Project will • Host six to eight virtual meetings for each PI Forum • State of the art internet conferencing software • Provide guidance and training on use of software • Provide list of meeting attendees and list of awardees in appropriate NSF Programs with email addresses
PI Forum Leaders Responsibilities PI Forums leaders will • Schedule meetings • Plan meeting agendas • Lead meetings • Maintain a website and give the Project access • Participate in the project evaluation

Selection Criteria • The impact of achieving the ultimate goal on STEM education • The reasonableness of expected outcomes and their impact in moving toward the group’s ultimate goal • The appropriate of the plans for achieving the expected outcomes • Anticipated number and diversity of participants
PI ForumFocus, Goal, and Expected Outcomes • Write • A sentence or two describing the focus of your collaboration • A statement of the ultimate goal of the collaboration • List the expected outcomes of your PI Forum • Share and critique these • CRITERION: (1) The potential impact of the ultimate goal on STEM education and (2) The reasonableness of expected outcomes and their impact in moving toward the group’s ultimate goal • Report the nature of the suggested changes • Questions
PI Forum Meeting Plans • List the topics that would be treated in each meeting • Share and critique the statements • CRITERION: The reasonableness of the plans in achieving the expected outcomes • Report the nature of the suggested changes • Questions
