Ways to obtain & license Lync • Microsoft offers 3 ways of setting Lync up: • On Premise • Partner Hosted • Microsoft Hosted
On Premise • Purchase licenses through a Volume License programme such as Open Business or Open Value • Licenses required: • Lync Server • Lync Standard CALs (IM & Presence) • Lync Enterprise CALs (Web Conferencing) • Lync Plus CALs (Voice) • Lync Client (for client devices ie. similar to Outlook) – is in Office Pro Plus • Windows Server + CALs • Exchange Server + Exchange Standard (+ Enterprise CALs for voicemail UM)
Partner Hosted • Also known as “private cloud” or SPLA • Numerous hosting partners in NZ that offer Lync • Pay the partner per user on a monthly basis • Local support and ability to provide the full Lync experience (including Voice over iP) • No need to purchase any software/hardware – the partner takes care of this for you
Microsoft Hosted • Also known as “public cloud” or Office 365 • Customer pays Microsoft directly each month on a per user basis • Voice not offered in NZ at this time • $3.06 per user per month for IM/Presence • $10 per user per month for IM/Presence/Web Conferencing • Or purchase a full plan ie. E1 package ie. $15.25 per user per month • If not purchasing a full plan you would need Exchange Server/CALs for some features
