Jodhpur is albeitly known for its blue buildings which were painted blue to signify residence by Brahmin’s, India’s highest caste. There are more than several attractions of heritage value in Jodhpur that are conducted in the Jodhpur Heritage Walk. Travelling across Mehrangarh Fort The fort which rises above the blue city, is one of the most beautiful forts in India and is an impressive, well preserved, heritage structure. It also houses the only professional museum shop in India. Various cultural performances happen here regularly, such as folk art, music and dance performances. If you want a romantic getaway dinner, The Chokelao Mahal Terrace restaurant serves traditional Rajasthani cuisine , with a glittering view of the shining city below. Several International Festivals also take place at the Mehrangarh fort such as The Rajasthan International Folk Festival in October and World Sufi Spirit Festival in February.  Enjoying the day at Jaswant Thada This is an intricate crafted Cenotaph (empty commemorative tomb), that was built in the year 1899 in honor of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Featuring shimmering white marble lattice screens and whimsical domes, the internal part of the tomb is adorned with the portraits of the rulers. Various tired tourists are seen here, relaxing and enjoying a brilliant view of the city below. Many people choose to stay here too as the hotels in this area are very affordable and the food in the nearby restaurants is great. The Sadar Market has a traditional market feel. The markets are colorful and sell everything right from saris, spices, to fabric and handicrafts. The old clock tower of the city is a marvel of the city that tourists love to flock to.  Explore the lanes of the blue city  Unlike the crowded lanes of the old city, the lanes of the blue area of the city just behind the fort, known as Navchokiya or the Blue City are quiet and are refreshingly devoid of tourists. There are several Haveli’s in this region available for residence such as Singhvi’s Haveli, Jewel Palace Haveli, Rani Mahal and Jaswant Palace Homestay. Keep glancing at the marvelous beauty of Umaid Bhawan Palace  The glorious Umaid Bhawan Palace, completed in 1944, is one of the grandest palaces ever to be built in India. The royal family of Jodhpur still resides in a section of it. The remainder has been converted into a luxurious palace hotel but unfortunately, it’s off limits to anyone who’s not residing there. However one can still visit the palace and enjoy the palace by having a costly dinner at one of the palace restaurants or by visiting the museum.  Checking out Mandore and Mandore Gardens  Mandore was the capital of the Marwar region before Jodhpur was founded, but it is in a neglected state currently. It is a very old fort with a beautiful collection of eclectic temples, cenotaphs and a small museum in Mandore Gardens. The gardens are a popular picnic spot and worthy of visiting for the fantastic architecture and history of a bygone era. If you love monkeys, you’ll find plenty there but be careful that they don’t snatch your food!
