School located • The school is located about 30 minutes from the center of Rzeszów - Podkarpacie capital,the region lying in the south-eastern Poland.
A few words about the history of the school • In 1967 began the construction of facilities where it originated fourth high school in Rzeszow. Over the years, the school has changed - the building was renovated and modified rules to be observed in the school. They began to celebrate important holidays, the day of the patron saint and the tradition of giving „Copernican diplomas” awarded to outstanding students of the school.
About school building and profiles • The building is made up of old and new, which is scheduled for completion in 2010, a sports hall. The school is focused on education especially in science, but there are also classes for other profiles. • Created profiles are biology and chemistry, biology, chemistry and physics, mathematics and physics, mathematics, physics and informatics, mathematics, chemistry and physics, and humanities.
Oursubject • Lessons at the school last for 45 minutes each, from 7:30 to 15:25. Between them we have one large 20-minute break. Moreover, a few words about our school patron… • Nicolaus Copernicus was born on February 19, 1473 in Torun in the family of a rich merchant, Nicholas. As a young man he studied at the Academy of Krakow, where he became interested in astronomy. With 20 years he went on to study law and medicine in Italy. After returning to Poland, settled in Frombork, where leisure time for many duties, as he was a canon of the cathedral, he was in astronomy.
In 1533 he delivered a series of lectures in Rome, in which he revealed his heliocentric theory, he created based on the concept of the Greek philosopher Aristarchusof Samos. On 24 May 1543, the day of his death, he received the first copy of hiswork: "On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres".
Copernicus was a man of the Renaissance, which is a very broad-minded interests. He was an astronomer, mathematician, lawyer, economist, strategist, poet, astrologer, translator and cleric. His work rocked the world of science, and even was on the restricted list as advocating heretical teachings. But it is a work contributed to the later discoveries of Galileo and Kepler. Copernicus died on 24 May 1543 in Frombork.
Some interesting facts about our patron • NicholausCopernicus knew only the basics of the Polish language. • In 537 anniversary of the birth of astronomer International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry named one of the elements copernicium (Cn).
