  2. What is Manorialism? • System between lords and laborers • Decreased cultural diffusion • Lords give land and protection to peasants • Peasants work for lords

  3. Serfs • Lived until about 35 • Bound to land • Need permission to leave. • Were not free • Harsh conditions • Received land for doing work • Payments due to the lord • Christmas • Easter

  4. Manors • Self sufficient • Economic foundation of Feudalism • Usually included a village and its surrounding land • Ruled by a lords

  5. The Reciprocal Obligations of Manorialism • Peasants paid lord dues for in turn for land. • The lord provided protection for peasants.
