The Arctic Fox By: Mun Leng (11) Diet In summer ,they eat rodents, birds and fish. In winter, they also eat the leftovers of a polar bear. When vegetables are available, they will also eat them. Habitat Arctic foxes live in Arctic regions of Europe, Asia and North America. These foxes are found in Greenland and Iceland. It lives in dens dug in the snow, and has thick fur that helps it survive in the harsh climate. Physical Appearance Arctic foxes have a fluffy and thick coat that cover them from head to feet. They have small ears and a small round muzzle. They can be either grey-blue or white. Young of each colour may occur in the same litter. Special features The arctic fox lives further north than any other fox. They are white during winter and brown during summer. As summer begins, the arctic fox sheds its white coat for a brown one, perfect cover for summer. The change back to a winter coat occurs in September and October. By November the white winter coat is complete. Others Their height is about 25-30 cm. They weight from 6 to 10 pounds. Mating occurs in early March and early April. Gestation(How long the animal carries the young until birth)lasts for at least 52 days. They may give birth to litters of 7 -15 pups. Why are they endangered?(closure) It is because people kill them for their fur that can be use for clothing that can be sold or traded. It is wrong to do so.
