Foundation skills, a definition The PIAAC data clearly show the interrelated and synergistic nature of academic, digital literacy, and employability skills. • Foundation skills are a combination of literacy, numeracy, and English language skills (i.e., listening, reading, writing, speaking in English, digital literacy, and the use of mathematical ideas), and employability skills required for participation in modern workplaces and contemporary life.
Intersections Skills and quality of life
Health disparities U.S. adults with low literacy skills are 4X more likely to report fair/poor health than adults with higher skills. This is twice the international average.
