  5. Drama A play performed before an audience

  6. Dialogue Conversation between two people

  7. Farce A type of comedy that presents stereotypical characters

  8. Foil A character used as a contrast to another character

  9. Juxtaposition To place something side by side to create a contrasting effect

  10. Monologue A speech by one person

  11. Pun A joke based on words with several meanings

  12. Rhetorical Question A question that doesn’t require an answer

  13. Tragedy A play that ends in death or a downfall

  14. Aside An actor’s words supposedly not heard by others on the stage

  15. Soliloquy A long speech (in a play) by a single character who is alone on the stage that reveals the personal thoughts and emotions of the character

  16. Epic A long narrative poem that traces the adventures of a hero
