…Inherited Legacies • Memetic legacy = ideas and beliefs, the VABES the people develop and pass on to others over time. (Similar to mental genes.) Cultural differences Transcended by reflection
MATURITY • The ability to recognize and review our legacies and inheritances as adults – no longer as defenseless children
Personality “Holes” • If babies’ basic needs are met (cold, hunger, wet, fear, alone), they develop a positive view of people and the world. • If their needs are not me, they develop “holes” that can influence the rest of their lives.

TYPES OF MEMES Distinction = Naming things or people: countries, types of people, regions Strategy = :”If-then“ statements about causal influence Association = values about what is better or worse
“Will you ever be anything more than a vessel transmitting the genes and memes of previous generations on to the next?” (For most people, the answer is no.) Are you able to learn anything about being a more effective leader, or are you of the mind-set that you are who you are and that’s just the way it is?
Principles of Control Theory • 1. I know what’s right for you. • 2. I have a right to tell you what’s right for you. • 3. I have a right to punish you if you don’t do what I think is right for you. How much control do you want over your followers?
Principles of Choice Theory • 1. No one has a right to tell other people what’s right for them. • 2. You should not punish people for doing non-harmful things they choose to do. • 3. Every person knows what’s right for him- or herself. Others do not make us angry when they do not do what we say – we choose to be angry
