Extracts from presentation guidelines • Supporting evidence. Include evidence that is necessary to support conclusions or claims you make. If the evidence is too much to include on the slide with the conclusion, use a drill-down approach to assemble your evidence. For example, include a brief summary of the evidence on the slide where it is called for and have a back-up slide you can go to provide more detailed evidence. You could also distribute a few additional pages of documentation to provide support. • Take-aways. Consider including a brief take-away at the bottom of slides. If you slide has presented important meaning, let the take-away answer the question: so what? In other words, given the meaning imparted on the slide, what are the implications for management action? Slides must clearly and completely illustrate the substance of the valued information being communicated. • Avoid having slides merely list topics to be discussed and expecting the audience to recall what was spoken. • Slides must convey the valuable substance of your presentation by presenting the appropriate information and necessary supporting evidence. • Power titles. Use power titles which are titles that capture the essence of the substance of your slides. Just as you might use headings and subheadings in a report, let your titles show the logical flow and communicate the essence of your presentation. • Slide formatting • Include slide numbers. • Include a footer that follows the electronic submission guidelines. • When displaying data, include only relevant, significant figures.
