Real-time data based weather alerts Trigger real-time computer-generated alerts, if: condition “A” AND condition “B” AND condition “C” OR condition “D” exists, in which case several San Diego emergency officers are being paged or emailed during such alert conditions, based on HPWREN data parameterization by a CDF Division Chief. This system has been in operation since 2004. Issues • It is unrealistic to “just leave network in place” • tower rental • we are hosted by several agency towers • network needs to continue to be professionally managed • Some feedback from NSF • most cyberinfrastructure money is in domain directorates, and not OCI • if the network is so important to NSF awardees, they need to make its support a line item in their proposals to their appropriate domain directorate/division • Given those premises, an HPWREN Sustainability Working Group had been created as a result of last year’s HPWREN Users Workshop to evaluate realistic long term sustainability models for basic network upkeep
