What isBusking ? Busking is, traditionally, street entertainment and is performed all over the World. You may have seen buskers in many cities and towns you have visited.
What is Patana Busking Day ? This is a day when all of the children in Years 3 to 6 can show off their talents in order to raise money for our International Children’s Projects. Last year we raised over 100,000 baht which was used to send a young Zanskari girl, Tenzin, to the Tibetan Children’s Village school in India.
Busking Day Projects 2013 • This year we are raising money to again support the education of children in the remote Indian province of Zanskar, through a Winter education programme. We are also planning to provide educational and welfare facilities for children in the remote Burmese Chin State.
What can we do? Any kind of performance by yourself or with a group! • Singing or Playing an Instrument • Dancing (any style) or Gymnastics • Juggling, Mime, Ventriloquism • Acting, Poetry Recital • Magic Show, Puppet Show • Martial Arts Demonstration • Novelty Act
What can’t we do? Sorry, but • No selling of items brought in from home • No competitions such as ‘Beat the Goalie’ • No use of water, foam, sprays or other dangerous substances. • No services such as nail-painting, hair-braiding, massage. Strictly performances only Please!
The Special Performers Once again this year some special performers will be given a slot for themselves in a finale performance on stage in the Theatre at 11:30am. If you would like to be selected as a special performer you must audition. Auditions will be held on Wednesday, June 5th in Mr Sharp’s room. Sign up for an audition with your music teacher.
How do I prepare for Busking Day? • Choose your act and start practicing now! You can perform solo or join with others from your class or another class. • Sign up in your class– your teachers will check the suitability of your act. You will perform your act for your class teacher or music teacher before Busking Day. • Think about what costumes, props or equipment you will require. • Find yourself a hat or basket for collecting money. • Make posters to advertise your performance and put them up around school one day before Busking Day.
What happens next? • Your teachers will be given a sign-up sheet to put in your classroom. • Choose your act and sign up with your class teacher before Wednesday, May 29th. Please include which musical equipment you would like to borrow from the Music Department • You will perform your act in your Music lesson from Wednesday, May 29th until Friday, June 7th. • Start organising your equipment. • There will be more information nearer the day. • Start collecting 5 and 10 baht coins!
