Purpose Develop a common understanding of the target elements within Marzano’s Focused Teacher Evaluation Model. Identify and discuss grade appropriate instructional techniques and evidence of student learning that align with particular target elements within the Marzano model. Recognize and explore the characteristics of effective formative assessment practice and its role in teachers’ instruction and students’ learning.
Norms for Our Work Today • Engage actively; • Honor time frames; • Put cell phones on vibrate; • Take care of your own needs; • Accept that we will not reach closure or cover all we need to know; • Make use of materials and attention signals
TRIAD/QUAD PROCESSING WORK • Take 5 – 7 min to explore and select a previewing technique that you currently do and one that you would like to integrate into your instruction. Discuss in triad or quad. • What evidence of student learning would you collect from this technique?
JIGSAW PROCESSING ACTIVITY • Form groups of 3 – 4. (someone new you haven’t worked with earlier) • Access first link. • Each person in your triad or quad becomes an expert in one of the techniques. Take a few minutes to understand. Then summarize technique to other members. Indicate a way in which you can use this in your classroom with your content. • Be prepared to share with entire group.
