  30. Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee How Do We Compare?

  31. Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee Lessons Learned • Employees still cite “behavior and culture” as our biggest barrier • Institutional barriers also exist (e.g. ineffective and contradictory policies) • Accounting metrics and “functional working groups” are not easily compatible • Capacity (mainly dedicated time) and resources are still needed in a more formalized way

  32. Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee Implementation Update • FY 2010 GYA-wide Projects • NREL Interagency Agreement • Implementation of next GYA-wide projects using FY 2011 GYCC funding

  33. Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee The GYCC’s Definition of Success • Setting and meeting a collective, realistic and credible ecosystem-wide GHG reduction goal • Ensuring the capacity and leadership intent to meet the goal • Developing/documenting a methodology for GHG accounting and reduction that serves as a model for other footprint areas, other agencies, and the public

  34. Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee Potential OpportunitiesYet to Come: • Full Implementation • Communication and Education • Expansion and Integration • Monitoring and Evaluation • Transparency; constant improvement • Consumption and life-cycle analysis

  35. Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee Future Areas of Need: Coordination & Assistance Expansion & Partnerships Data Aggregation Macro (GYA) Communication & Education Interface with New Policies Mid (Unit) Leadership Programs of Work Resources Capacity Succession Planning Implementation New Projects Micro (Project) Monitoring & Evaluation Footprint Accounting

  36. Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee We’d like to work with you to create solutions to: • How to guarantee implementation of each unit’s action plans (Definition of Success #2)? • Expansion to fulfill Definition of Success #3? • Communication? • External Partners and Cross-coordination? • How should cross-unit communication and integration best be accomplished? • How to continue to find and utilize GYA-wide resources?

  37. Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee Some Potential Next Steps, Please… • Spend time with your staff checking your Unit’s Action Plan • We’d like to seek GYCC approval this fall; Nov. conference call? • Frame up the issues: • Engage in conversations about personnel/capacity options to meet the Definition of Success and coordination needs • Any volunteers to work with the SOS to frame up the issue and explore options? (a couple of conference calls) • Agree on a capacity measures to implement on your units? • Budgeting and programs of work? • Facilities maintenance and construction processes? • Fleet processes? • Think creatively about our next steps, to build upon our successes and realize the future potential of this initiative.
