    1. Northwest Alliance for Responsible Media Dr. John Caputo, Director Professor of Communication Arts & Director of the M.A. Program in Communication and Leadership, Gonzaga University

    2. What is the NW-ARM? Our mission is to explore the influence of media on our society, educate the region regarding this influence, and engage educators, government, churches, social and health service professionals and the media in developing and promoting media literacy education We are part of the Center for Media Literacy Excellence located at Gonzaga University Gonzaga University’s M.A. Program in Communication and Leadership

    3. Organizational Goals Explore positive solutions to media issues Organize and educate our community regarding media literacy Plan and develop an effective resolution to the issues of media violence Research the influence of media

    4. Community Partnerships We bring individuals from different communities and organizations together to explore positive solutions to the influence of media We have an 8 member volunteer board and an 18 member Advisory Board from various organizations across Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho.

    5. NW-ARM is an Education, Training and Resource Center We provide media literacy events, workshops, and forums for the community We provide training workshops and seminars for individuals interested in media literacy education We award to organizations and individuals Opportunity Fund Grants for further exploration and dissemination of media literacy information We have a resource library of materials on media education, legislation, and policy

    6. Advocacy Spoke before the City of Spokane’s Cable Advisory Board about creating media literacy spots for Comcast Cable Published articles in the Spokesman-Review on media literacy Send out media literacy alerts to NW-ARM members about media policies and legislation

    7. Past NW-ARM Events Since 2000, we’ve hosted more than 25 media literacy trainings for educators, parents, and youths Invited nationally known political figures to NW-ARM media literacy conferences, i.e. Governor Christine Gregoire, Senator Maria Cantwell John DeGraaf – “Take Back Your Time” Movement Jackson Katz’s “Tough Guise” event Av Westin event for high school students at KXLY-TV Opportunity Fund Grants

    8. Bringing NW-ARM to you We have a variety of media literacy resources of interest to parents, schools and other community members Our publications are for those who are seeking to become media-wise and are available to all the organization's members. The NW-ARM also has a speaker's bureau to help groups that want to hold a program on media literacy.
