  3. Life Cycle/General description • Usually 1-2 years in freshwater • BUT may spend 0 years or up to 3 years • 1.5 years of ocean life • Those that return earlier are “jacks” • No black spots on dorsal fin • Spots on upper caudal fin • Some fins may be tipped with orange

  4. Spawning areas • Spawn in same areas as kings • Except like shallower streams • Similar life history to kings • Less fat content • Color: gets redder as approaches spawning area

  5. Stocked Lakes in Fairbanks • Chena Lakes • Silver, King • Birch Lake • Silver, Kings • Also… ocean silvers in Valdez, Seward, Kenai Peninsula

  6. Interesting facts • 75% of all silver catches from AK • Silver have been introduced into the Great Lakes • Little is known about ocean migrations of coho • Commercially they are caught by trolling
