  3. Common causes • Common causes of amnesia are aging • head trauma • seizures • Stroke • Forgetting familiar faces

  4. symptoms • Uncoordinated movements, sometimes tremors • Confusion or disorientation. • Problems with short-term memory. • Partial loss of memory. • Total loss of memory.

  5. Treatment • Normally this condition is treated by a psychiatrist • Hypnosis can also be helpful in bringing back memories • Family support is crucial in the treatment of amnesia

  6. Signs • Failure to recognize faces • Recognize family • Forget recent memory • And things that you normally remember

  7. Complications • Even mild amnesia takes a toll on daily activities and quality of life • The syndrome can cause problems at work, at school and in social settings. It may not be possible to recover lost memories • Some people with severe memory problems need to live in a supervised situation or extended care facility

  8. How common • amnesia usually appears in people over 50. Only 3% of people who experience amnesia have symptoms that recur within a year
