God created the heavens and the earth in six days by speaking, and rested on the seventh • Day 1 – the heavens, the earth, light, and darkness • Day 2 – heaven • Day 3– dry lands, the sea, and vegetation • Day 4 – the sun, the moon, and the stars • Day 5 – animals in the water and air • Day 6 – land animals and man • Day 7 – God rested • Genesis 1 The creator and creation of earth
“God created humankind in his image … male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1) “Then the Lord God formed a manfrom the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” “Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib[h] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.” (Genesis 2) The creator and creation of humans
Genesis 1 seems to portray man and woman as equals – they were both created at the same time and both in God’s image Genesis 2 – Eve (woman) was created from Adam (man) and is also the reason they get thrown out of the Garden of Eden Gender roles
